In loving memory of Roger Martin Bornemeier, a dedicated farmer who cultivated not just the land, but also bonds within his community.
Born June 28, 1933, to Alfred (Mike) and Bernice (Nickel) Bornemeier. Roger graduated from Murdock High School in 1951. He received a 1949 Ford tractor as a graduation gift which still sits in his yard today.
A few years later, Mike and Bernice purchased the hardware store in Murdock and the family moved to town. They lived there for many years until a fire destroyed the business.
Always committed to his faith, Roger was a member of Ebenezer Evangelical United Brethren, where his membership remained until he moved to Elmwood. At that time, he transferred his membership to St. Paul United Methodist Church.
About 27 years ago, he retired from farming and moved to Elmwood and became active in the community. He was a member of the Lions Club. Roger found employment with the Green Thumb Program, worked as grounds keeper at the Bess Streeter Aldrich house, and as part of the janitorial staff at the elementary school.
Roger loved holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas and was a Grand Marshall, along with Gordan Lannin in the Holiday Extravaganza parade in 2018.
Roger passed away on January 11, 2024, and leaves behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and a profound connection to the earth and his faith. His passion for farming was surpassed only by his kindness and generosity. Through seasons of plenty and scarcity, he remained a pillar of strength for his family and neighbors.
Preceded in death by parents Alfred and Bernice Bornemeier.
