Obituary

Roy Robert Berner, age 95, of Syracuse passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, September 18, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, Nebraska.

Roy was born on October 19, 1919 on his family's farm west of Avoca, Nebraska to John and Mary (Ottens) Berner. He married Imo Emma Dora Stutt on September 3, 1941. They were blessed with one daughter, Cheryl Ann.

Roy was a life-long member of North Branch Church in rural Avoca where he was baptized, confirmed, married and now will be laid to rest. He also served on the District #76 Rural School Board and belonged to the Eagles Club.

Long after retiring, he still enjoyed helping with planting and harvest, as well as buying and selling cattle at the Tecumseh sale barn. Roy treasured time with his family, especially visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Imo and daughter Cheryl Leefers (Ted). Grandchildren: Michael Leefers (Jennifer) and Valerie Stranathan (Shawn). Great-grandchildren: Morgan Leefers, Dalton Leefers, Kaitlyn Stranathan and Dylan Stranathan. Sisters: Margaret Stubbendick and Pauline Hauschild (Alan). Brother-in-law: Donald Hopp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John Berner and Lesly Berner, brother-in-law Glen Stubbendick and sisters-in-law Elsie Berner, Laverta Berner and Dorothy Hopp.
