Ruth Elaine Wilhelm, 97, passed away August 7, 2018 at Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse. She was born April 21, 1921 in Syracuse to Lynn and Agnes (France) McCormick. She graduated from Syracuse High School, attended Peru State College and taught at area country schools. Ruth met Vernon Wilhelm at the Palmyra Old Settlers Picnic and they wed on June 26, 1943 in Union, NE. and were married for 66 years. Together they raised four children; Lynn, Ron, Bob and Nola. Ruth and Vern farmed and lived in the Unadilla area all their lives. She enjoyed being on the farm, having a garden, tending her flowers and documenting her family history. Ruth played piano and organ for the church's she belonged to from the ages of 16 through 90 and volunteered for many years entertaining the residents at Good Sam.

Ruth is survived by her son Bob (Barb) of Unadilla, daughter Nola (Dave) Johnson of Lincoln, daughter-in law Bev (Chuck Bjork) Wilhelm of Unadilla, daughter-in-law JoAnne Wilhelm of Lincoln, 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a diminishing number of good friends including lifelong friend Mary Gartner, and special card club members.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vern, sons Lynn and Ron, great grandson H Wilhelm, brother and sister-in-law Dean and Ardist McCormick, infant sister, all of Vern's siblings and their spouses and her cherished cousins.

Memorials are suggested to St. John's United Church of Christ or the Otoe County Genealogical Society.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, Aug. 11 at 2 P.M. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Syracuse. Burial will be at Park Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, August 10 from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. at the funeral home in Syracuse.
