Sgt. Matthew F. Kirchhoff was born on July 1, 1990 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Craig and Marilyn (Maahs) Kirchhoff. He passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014 near Elmwood, Nebraska alongside the love of his life, Emily Widger, and their dog Bear, at the age of 24 years, 20 months and 20 days.
Matthew was raised in rural Weeping Water and attended Weeping Water Public Schools graduating with the Class of 2008. After High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After basic training in Ft Knox, he was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division and stationed at Fort Drum, New York where he was a Calvary Scout. During his four year enlistment, he served a one year deployment in Afghanistan. After his discharge, his love of the military service drew him back and he went from In-Active to Active and joined the 2nd Battalion, 377th Regiment of the Army Reserve in Lincoln, Nebraska.
He was currently attending South East Community College in Milford learning the machinist trade. His goal was to pursue a career as a gunsmith. Matthew was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing, hunting and discussing current events and world history with friends and family. He loved playing and coaching baseball. His favorite teams to cheer for are the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Penguins and anything Cornhusker. He was a member of First Lutheran Church (North Branch).
Matthew is survived by his parents Craig & Marilyn Kirchhoff of Weeping Water, Brother: Jacob Kirchhoff of Omaha, Sisters: Kathryn & Rebecca Kirchhoff of Weeping Water, Grandma: Marianna Kirchhoff of Avoca, Grandma: Doris Maahs of Lincoln, Grandpa: Eugene Maahs of Walton, He is also survived by Aunts, Uncles & Cousins.
He was preceded in death by his Grandfather: Robert Kirchhoff and all of his Great Grandparents.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at First Lutheran Church (North Branch) in Rural Avoca, Nebraska with Rev. David Buco, officiating.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25th from 9 AM until 9 PM with family greeting friends from 6 – 8 PM at the Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Home, Weeping Water, NE
Interment will be in the First Lutheran (North Branch) Cemetery.
Memorial may be directed to the Kirchhoff Family for future designation.
