Sharon K. Vollertsen, 70, of Syracuse, passed away on January 2, 2026, at Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln. Sharon was born on November 16, 1955, in Superior, to Leland & Lyda (Geiswinkler) Bargen. She was baptized on January 9, 1956, and confirmed on May 23, 1971, both at Salem Lutheran Church in Superior.
Sharon graduated as Valedictorian of Superior High School in 1974. She received a Regents Scholarship to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business in 1978.
On December 30, 1988, Sharon was united in marriage to Roger Vollertsen in Lincoln, Nebraska. Together they shared many years until his passing in 2014. She worked at Union Bank in Lincoln, Ameritas, and later Mutual of Omaha, from which she retired in 2018.
In her free time, Sharon enjoyed Sudoku and crossword puzzles, scratch-off tickets and camping. She especially loved her flowers, with a particular fondness for African violets. Above all, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren, as well as her nieces and nephews.
Sharon is survived by her son, Jon (Meesha) Vollertsen; grandchildren, Jaden, Tanner, Makenna, and Jaxon Vollertsen; brother, Steven (Dixie) Bargen; sister, Nancy (Brian) Christy; sisters-in-law, Carol (LeRoy) Carlson and Marilyn (Larry) Nelson; brother-in-law, Steven Vollertsen; close friend, Gary Ehmke; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger Vollertsen; her daughter, Stacy Vollertsen; and her sister, Barbara Sheets.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 7 at 1:00 p.m. at Luther Memorial Church in Syracuse. The service will be livestreamed on the Luther Memorial Church, NE YouTube page. Burial will follow at the Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 6 from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
