Shirley Ann Gaebel, passed away Monday, December 22, 2025, at the age of 95 at the Oxbow Assisted Living in Ashland. She was born on August 26, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Frederick and Libby (Burka) Iske.
After graduating from Springfield High School in 1947, Shirley married William "Bill" Gaebel on June 18, 1950, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Louisville. Together they created their family with the additions of children - Roger, Steve, Michael, Bill and Lori.
Shirley dedicated over 45 years of her career as a retail buyer, beginning with Brandeis, later known as Younkers, for 25 years and culminating in her role as a Gift Shop Buyer at Mahoney State Park for 20 wonderful years. Her keen eye for detail and love for beautiful things extended beyond her professional life into her cherished hobby of gardening, where she found joy in nurturing vibrant flowers.
A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and an Extension Club for many years. Her passion for connecting with others was also evident in her monthly card club, where she shared laughter and camaraderie with a close-knit group of friends. Shirley's warmth and kindness will be remembered and cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Shirley is survived by her children; Roger (Linda) Gaebel of Louisville, Steve (Ann) Gaebel of Louisville, Bill Gaebel of Louisville, and Lori Kullbom of Lincoln; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; brothers Gerald (Marilyn) Iske of Omaha, and Harold Iske of Omaha; sister Carolyn Webster of Omaha, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Bill; son, Michael; brothers, Carl,Ronald, and John Iske; and sisters, Bernice Schnack, Janice Thompson, and Donna Grube.
A Funeral Service for Shirley will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Louisville. Visitation will be Friday, December 26, 2025 from 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM, with family greeting friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the funeral home in Louisville.
Memorials may be direct to the family for later designation.
