Sylvia P. Stubbendeck, 96 of Syracuse formerly of Elmwood, passed away on Friday January 16, 2015 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse, NE. She was born on November 19, 1918 to William & Olinda (Finke) Bottcher in rural Syracuse.
Sylvia married Herman Stubbendeck on April 4, 1943 in Syracuse. She was a Country school teacher. She and her husband owned and operated Stubbendeck Farm Store in Elmwood for almost 40 years. She was very active in the Elmwood community belonging to the American Legion Auxiliary and Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation. She loved growing and tending to her flowers.
She is survived by her Sons: Wayne (Sherry) Stubbendeck of Elmwood, Norman (Linda) Stubbendeck of Platte City, MO, Daughter: Phyllis (Fred) Berner of Avoca, 7 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Granddaughter and Brother: William "Bill" Bottcher.
She is preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Brother: Clarence and Sisters: Lois, Lucille and Dorothy.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 21, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church (North Branch) at 1434 N. 30th Rd. Avoca, NE. Burial will be at First Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday January 20 from 1 P.M. till 9 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home in Elmwood.
The family suggests memorials to Elmwood Senior Center, American Legion Auxiliary in Elmwood, Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation or First Lutheran Church (North Branch).
