Terry A. Ehmke, 86 of Avoca, passed away on August 27, 2026, at the Waterford in Lincoln. She was born on February 9, 1940, to Harold J. & Margaret A. (Meyer) Gress in Nebraska City. On December 4, 1959, she married Harold H. Ehmke at the First Lutheran Church (North Branch).

Terry worked for the Avoca Elementary School as a cook and custodian before continuing in those same roles with Louisville Public Schools in 1989. She remained with the school district until her retirement in 2007. Terry was also active in her church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and participated in the church quilting group.

Terry enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. She also loved cooking and baking and was always happy to share what she made with others. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.

She is survived by her husband Harold; sons Brian (Patti) Ehmke, Brad (Lori) Ehmke; grandchildren Andrew (Brittney) Cole, Rylee (Brett) Smyth, Brennan (Kyle) Ehmke, Jared Ehmke, Jace Ehmke; great grandchildren Wade, Judd & Molly Smyth, Lennon & Walker Cole, Carter Ehmke; siblings Larry Gress, Carol Jean Fitzgerald, Harold “Budge” Gress and Judy Braunschweig; also many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 4 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church (North Branch) in rural Avoca. The service will be livestreamed on the First Lutheran Youtube page. Burial will follow in the Avoca Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3 from 4-7 p.m. with family present at the funeral home in Syracuse.
