Valara Elizabeth Horn, age 89, of Weeping Water, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, February 8th, 2025.  Valara was born on December 24th, 1935, in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, to Otto and Mildred (Stoehr) Meisinger.

Valara grew up on a farm west of Plattsmouth, where she attended School District 41 through the 8th grade before graduating from Plattsmouth High School in 1953. Afterward, she worked diligently for the Cass County Assessor from 1954 until her marriage to Leo Jacob Horn on August 10, 1958, at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Louisville, Nebraska.

A devoted farm wife, Valara dedicated her life to her family and community, wholeheartedly embracing the responsibilities of rural life. She raised a large vegetable and flower garden, expertly canning vegetables, and took immense pride in her home and farm. Once her children were raised, she worked in the office at Farmer's Co-op in Manley, worked in the kitchen at Hi-Vu Café, and worked in the Weeping Water Public School kitchen. She was also an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Weeping Water, where she served faithfully as secretary of the Ladies Aid for many years.

Valara's willing nature led her on many adventures with Leo, as they traveled both within the United States and abroad. She had a passion for quilting, contributing to the creation of more than 2600 quilts for the Orphan Grain Train, a testament to her skill and dedication. Throughout her years, she enjoyed playing pinochle with friends, as well as bowling.

Valara is survived by her daughter, Sheri (Mark) Wieden of Blue Springs, NE; sons, Alan (Denise) Horn of Weeping Water, NE, and Gary (Jeff Thorp) Horn of Lincoln, NE; her grandchildren, Megan (Garrett) Leithoff, Matthew Wieden, Michaela (Austin) Nielsen, and Eric Horn; along with her great-grandchildren, Lucas, Lane, and Levi Leithoff.

Valara is preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her parents, Otto and Mildred Meisinger; and her brother, LaVerne Meisinger.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12th, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with family present from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Home in Weeping Water, NE. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Weeping Water, NE, on Thursday, February 13th, 2025, at 10:30 am, with Pastor Paul Warneke officiating.

Memorials may be directed to the family for distribution to Valara's favorite charities.
