Verne Leroy Dowding, 90 of Eagle, was born December 19, 1930, at Palmyra to John & Falsom (Dwinell) Dowding. The youngest of eight siblings, all deceased. He went to rest on July 16, 2021, at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln.

Verne graduated from Palmyra High School. He married Winifred Lanning on December 23, 1948, at the Palmyra Baptist Church. Verne farmed and raised many types of cattle, but Hereford were his favorite. He stayed busy when not farming by owning the Case dealership in Syracuse, running Dowding Equipment for trucking and mail hauling, and doing custom combining and corn shelling. Verne served on the Palmyra Rural Fire Dept. Board, director of the Palmyra Elevator Board and active member of Second Baptist Church in Lincoln. He also enjoyed watching many types of sports and western movies.

He is survived by his Wife: Winifred (Lanning) Dowding of Eagle; Daughter: Nancy (Karl) Byleen of Hales Corners, WI; Sons: Danny (Maydora) Dowding of Lincoln, LaVerne (Susan) Dowding of Guthrie, OK & Byron (Sharon) Dowding of Palmyra; 16 Grandchildren; 36 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Brothers: Joe, John, Gerald & Clyde, Sisters: Lulu, Pearl and Lovina, also a son-in-law and grandson.

Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 20 at 10 a.m. at the Rosewood Cemetery in Palmyra. Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Second Baptist Church, 525 N 58th St. Lincoln. Both will be livestreamed on the Fusselman-Allen-Harvey F.H. Facebook page.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 19 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to the Palmyra Senior Center or Second Baptist Church in Lincoln.
