Vernon was born on October 29, 1937, in Dover, Florida, to Clarence & Clemmie (Wilson) Abbott. He passed away, on Sunday, October 23, 2011, at the Hospice House, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 73 years, 11 months, and 17 days.

Vernon married Janet Sluyter, on November 1, 1957, in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and to this union they raised Rick, Roger, Randy, and Rhonda. He served in the United States Air Force, during the Korean Conflict. Vernon was a member of the Manley Volunteer Fire Department.

Vernon is survived by his children; Rick & Chris Abbott, of Weeping Water, NE, Roger & Jodi Abbott, of Louisville, NE, Randy Abbott, of Manley, NE, and Rhonda & Bruce Zierott, 13 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren, his sister Warline Mattlingly.

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janet (March 2010), and great grandson Timothy Abbott.

Funeral Services for Vernon Abbott will be Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Congregational Church UCC, 204 North Elm, in Weeping Water, NE.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M with the family greeting friends from 6 until 9 P.M. The casket will also be open one hour before services at the church.
