Maurice was born on the family farm near Louisville on May 30, 1917 and was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Marie "Mamie" and his sister Jean.

Maurice and his future wife Jean, both trumpet players, met during the summer of 1930 because of their association with the Farmers Union Band at Louisville. They had their "first date" in 1936 and were engaged in 1941. In 1942 , Maurice along with his friend Charlie Gable, enlisted in the US Army. He was in five major battles: "Battle of the Bulge", Battle of Saint-Lo", "Battle of the Ruhr Valley", "Battle of Magdeburg", and the capture of Aachen. He was awarded battle stars and medals including the Bronze Star and the French "Croix De Guerre". In October of 1945 he was honorably discharged from the Army with the rank of Technical Sergeant.

Maurice and Jean were married October 28, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Louisville. Maurice, Jean and their son Steven moved to the family farm in 1950. Their family grew from three to five with the addition of a daughter, Sherry and a son Rand. Over the years Maurice added a Grade A dairy to his farm, retiring in 1984 when his son, Rand took over the dairy and the farm. Maurice has been a life long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Survivors include: his wife Jean of Louisville, NE, Son Steven and wife Susan Group of San Mateo, CA, daughter Sherry and husband Rusty Thrasher of Omaha and son Rand and wife Vonda Group of Louisville, five granddaughters, three great granddaughters and two great grandsons.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 29th 1:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Louisville. Internment will be private. Donations to either:  Immanuel Lutheran Church, Louisville or "Wounded Warriors family support" www.wwfs.org
