Vicki Ella
Huskey
Nov 14, 1956 — Jun 21, 2026
First Lutheran Church (North Branch)
3:00 - 4:00 pm (Central time)
Vicki Ella (Vedvick) Huskey, 69, of Syracuse, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, surrounded by her family and loved ones after a courageous battle with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a form of blood cancer. Vicki was born on November 14, 1956, in Tacoma to Verne and Helen (Whannell) Vedvick. She spent her life serving others with kindness, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to education and family.
On August 5, 1977, she married the love of her life and best friend, Greg Huskey. Together they built a life centered on family, friendship, adventure, and service to others. Their marriage of nearly 49 years was a testament to their love and devotion.
As an educator, Vicki taught for more than 40 years in communities across Nebraska, spending the most time at Weeping Water High School and Conestoga High School, teaching German and Spanish. She touched the lives of countless students, earning the respect and affection of generations who knew her as Mrs. Huskey. Whether in the classroom or among family and friends, Vicki had a gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved.
Vicki had a passion for reading and was an enthusiastic beta reader for Ann Charles, finding joy in helping bring Ann’s stories to life. She loved playing online games with family and friends across the country, often turning ordinary moments into treasured memories. She was an active member of her church family whenever her health allowed and found ways to support the church with her many hobbies. She also loved to travel, exploring the world and creating adventures whenever possible, often bringing students or family and friends along so they could share in the experience. Above all else, Vicki treasured her family. To many she was Mrs. Huskey, to others Aunt Vicki, and to her beloved grandchildren she was simply Grandma or Nana.
She is survived by her husband, Greg Huskey; her children, Nick Huskey (Angie), and Karissa Martin (Jeff), and Neil Huskey (Sarah); and her grandchildren, Hayden, Trevin, Ashton, Hope, Keegan, Jensen, Ella, and Ricki. She is also survived by her brothers, Ret. Col. Lars Vedvick (Lanna) and Dr. Tom Vedvick; and by many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews, including Rod & Corinne Huskey, Jay & Robyn Huskey, Cory & Stina Huskey, Solvei, Lars Erik, Aaron, Lars, Jennifer, Riley, Jordan, Caden, Kaiser, and Hollister.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Verne and Helen Vedvick, and her sister-in-law Claudia.
Vicki will be remembered for her generous heart, her adventurous spirit and the love she shared so freely. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, the students she inspired, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness, wisdom, and encouragement. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Pastor Adam, many friends, relatives, caregivers, and church members, especially the “church ladies” who supported Vicki throughout her illness and surrounded her with love and prayers.
Funeral services for Vicki will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church-North Branch, Avoca, NE. The service will be livestreamed on the First Lutheran Avoca Nebraska YouTube page.
Memorials may be directed to the church - First Lutheran Church (North Branch).
Though deeply missed, Vicki’s love, laughter, and spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
