Virgil Sugden, age 90, died Saturday, September 22, 2007, at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Roberta Beth (Pittman) Sugden of Lincoln, daughter Billie Kay Lefholtz and son-in-law Rod Aden of Lincoln, son Kent Sugden and daughter-in-law Pamela of Fort Collins, Colorado, grandsons Curt Lefholtz of Lincoln and Walter Sugden of Nebraska City, sisters Esther McPherson and Betty Pittman both of Adams, Nebraska, along with many nieces and nephews. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents John and Louise (Mannschreck) Sugden and brothers Paul, LeRoy and Ralph Sugden. Virgil was born in Burr, Nebraska, on September 16, 1917: the family moved to Douglas, Nebraska, when he was age 5. Virgil spent the majority of his life in Douglas as a farmer, carpenter and co-owner of the grain elevator. He enjoyed playing cards, reading, throwing horseshoes, hunting, fishing, camping, and working in his shop. Virgil thought you should eat dessert first. In 2004, Virgil and Roberta moved from their farm near Douglas to Van Dorn Villa in Lincoln, Nebraska where they made many friends and enjoyed lots of good card games. A member of the Douglas Methodist Church, Virgil's gentle, generous, loving spirit will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, September 25, at the Douglas United Methodist Church in Douglas, Nebraska. Memorials to Douglas United Methodist or Van Dorn Villa.
