Virginia "Ginny"Lee Knutson age 98 of Louisville, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at Nye Summit in Louisville, Nebraska, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska on November 30, 1927 to Frank and Dora (Rathbun) Tyo.
Ginny grew up in Louisville, where she graduated from Louisville High School in 1945 and was later recognized as an 80-year alum in 2025. She began her rewarding career in education through normal training and dedicated numerous years to teaching in local schools, including Manley School, Eight Mile Grove, and Pleasant Ridge School. In 1985, Ginny proudly earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education, which further fueled her passion for nurturing young minds. Throughout her career, she maintained close relationships with many of her students, who fondly remember her as a caring and inspiring teacher.
Ginny was an active member of the First Christian Church in Louisville, and her community involvement extended to her service with the American Legion Auxiliary, where she was honored as a Gold Star member for over 50 years. She also participated in the Royal Neighbors of America and the Rebecca Lodge. Known for her generosity, Virginia devoted countless hours to community service, including selling poppies each year for the American Legion Auxiliary.
An avid cook, reader, and puzzle enthusiast, Ginny found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly indulging in sweets, especially chocolate. Above all, family was the cornerstone of her life, and she delighted in attending the events and activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ginny is survived by her daughter Nancy (George) Briggs of Cedar Creek, NE; grandchildren, Tracy (Stan) Heard of Louisville, NE and Chris (Amber) Briggs of Springfield, NE; great grandchildren, Taylor (Nico) Catania Giacco, Chandler Briggs, Olivia (Christian) Stastny, Avery Heard and Eric Heard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Dora Tyo, husband Robert Knutson, son, John Robert Knutson, siblings, June Masters, John Dale Tyo, Mildred Keifer, Leone King.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Louisville Methodist Church in Louisville, Nebraska with Rev. Jim Bendorf officiating.
Visitation will be Friday, May 8, 2026 from 1:00 - 8:00 PM with family greeting friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
A private family burial will take place prior to the funeral service at Riverview Cemetery, Louisville, Nebraska.
Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
