Vivian Parker, age 92, passed away on October 7, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, Nebraska following a fall two weeks before that left her with a broken hip and wrist.
Vivian was number seven of eight children born to Claude Masters and Amy (Barrett) Masters. Vivian graduated from Syracuse Public Schools where she was proudly on the volleyball team, all 5 foot 1 inch of her.
Vivian met her husband of 64 years when she was 15 and Gayle was 20. He proposed two years later and they spent happy, busy years together raising their family, primarily in the Syracuse area. Brad was their first child and was joined two years later by Tami. The family enjoyed many activities together but especially focused their free time showing and raising Shetland ponies. Many lifelong friendships were formed during this time. There was also a shed full of trophies documenting their accomplishments.
Vivian was a lifelong educator and proudly took credit for teaching many young students the fine points of square dancing. Vivian received her Bachelors of Education degree from Peru State College in 1968 and her Masters degree in Education in 1988 from the University of Nebraska. She started her education career in one room school houses around Otoe and Cass County areas in Nebraska. She eventually landed at Syracuse Public Schools where she taught to the age of 65, upon retirement she continued to teach in a substitute role in areas around Syracuse to the age of 71.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gayle, and all seven siblings, Earl Masters, Irene Hanner, Iola Neumeister, Phyllis Heather, Bob Masters, Donnie Masters and Billie Masters.
Vivian loved her family and was often proud of beating her grandsons in a rousing game of Hearts during the holidays and loved watching Amy continue to enjoy riding horses through her life. Those left behind to cherish her memory are Brad (Mary) Parker, Tami (Mike) Resso, grandchildren Amy Resso, Kyle (Emily) Parker, Travis (Emily) Parker, and great-grandchildren Maverick and Scout Parker and Crew Parker.
Her mischievous yet kind smile will be missed.
