Obituary

Wayne C. Johnson, of Lincoln, NE formally of Cook, son of Claude H. & Leora (Hauberg) Johnson was born, March 30, 1923 near Cook, Nebraska. He grew up on the family farm and attended grade school at District 50 (Fighting Fifty) nearby. He graduated from Brock High School in 1940, and attended the University of Nebraska a short time.

He served in the U.S. Army in W.W. II and saw overseas duty.

In 1945, he and Ruth Furrow were united in marriage. A son, Roger was born of the marriage. Ruth died of Cancer on October 15, 1987

Wayne's second marriage to Ione (Dirksen) Viox occurred on Sept. 7, 1988.

Wayne farmed and raised livestock, (specializing in hogs), on the farm between Cook and Talmage until his retirement after which other business interests required his attention, but he always maintained his love for the land the rural atmosphere.

Other activities throughout his life included; service on the school boards, church boards, Co-op elevator board, Farm Bureau board, and political positions. He served over 12 years on the Nemaha Natural Resource District board of directors and was chairman of the Nebraska Natural Resources Commission for a time during his 12 year tenure with that State Agency. He filled a position on an Advisory Board to the Omaha Public Power District Board of Directors and was unsuccessful in an attempt to win election to the O.P.P.D. board. He also served many years as an Inspector for the Lancaster County Noxious Weed Control Authority. He was a volunteer for the NEMAP (Nebraska Motorists Assist Program) in his later years.

Wayne was a member of the Pawnee City Masonic Lodge, a past member of the Scottish Rite and the Sesostric Shrine of Lincoln. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Wayne liked to travel and did so quite extensively. He had visited every state in the U.S. several times and many foreign sites also.

He passed away, Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the age of 88.

He leaves to mourn, his wife Ione, son Roger (Sheri) of Cook, NE, brother Lyle (Gladys), of Lincoln, NE, sister Joyce (Robert) Nowack, of Brock, NE, sister-in-law Mardella Johnson, of Fairmont, NE, stepdaughters, Karen, Kim, and Kelly (Tom), all of Lincoln, NE, 5 step grandchildren, Samantha, Logan, Clay, Evan, and Alex, also numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. at Zion United Church of Christ in Talmage.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6 until 7 P.M. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Grant Evergreen Cemetery, Talmage, NE
