Obituary

Wilbur "Mickey" M. DeGolyer, 81 of Dunbar, passed away on March 28, 2019 at BryanWest Hospital in Lincoln surrounded by family. He was born on September 12, 1937 to Clarence & Elnora C. (Eisenman) DeGolyer in Arthurdale, West Virginia.

Wilbur was baptized at St. Therese in Britz, W. Virginia on May 8, 1938. He graduated from Arthurdale High School on May 26, 1955 and Goldey Beacom School of Business on April 3, 1957. After college he served honorably in the Navy starting in January 1957. While in the Navy he was a computer programmer. He retired from the Navy in September 1978 as a Chief Petty Officer. After the Navy he worked for BB&T Bank and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (S.L.E.D).

Wilbur married Rosalie J. (Dole) Wostenberg on October 3, 1964 and they had 2 children: Catherine and Andrew DeGolyer. They later divorced and he then married Kathleen (Simmons) DeGolyer on March 29, 1980 and he added to his family Rebecca and Allen Kinard.

He was very active in his community serving as the treasurer for American Legion Post #100 for many years and was commander of VFW for the past year. He also served on the American Legion Baseball Committee and helping at District Wrestling tournaments in the coaches lounge.

Wilbur was also a member of St. John's UCC where he sang on the praise team and in the choir. He loved cooking for anyone and shared this talent with the Beloved after school program for many years.

He is survived by his Children: Catherine J. (Artem) Vartanov of Dunbar, Andrew M. (Brenda) DeGolyer of Dunbar, Rebecca Kinard of Sneads, FL, Allen (Donna) Kinard of Sneads, FL; Grandchildren: Vincent Varvil, Alex Varvil, Braxtyn DeGolyer, Kayden DeGolyer, Aaron (Elizabeth) Kinard, Billy Kinard, Michael (Leah) Kinard; 3 Great Grandsons and 1 Great Granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife: Kathleen, 5 sisters and 3 brothers.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 6th at 2:00 P.M. at St. John's UCC in Syracuse.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1st from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6-8 P.M.

Memorials are suggested to St. John's UCC or Syracuse VFW #5547.
