William Merle Fisher "Buster", 88 of Cook, passed away on July 2, 2021, at his home. He was born on June 24, 1933, to Merle & Roberta (Kovanda) Fisher in Cook. After graduating from Cook High School in 1951, he joined the Navy in 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged on May 24, 1956, he earned the following medals and recognitions: Good Conduct, United Nations, Korean Defense, China Service, and National Defense. He served on the U.S.S. Blue DD-744. He married Joyce Hervey on December 7, 1956, in Sidney, IA.

Buster farmed around Cook all his life. He was a staple in the community as a 65-year member of the Cook American Legion Post #360, member of the Burr United Methodist Church and soloist at numerous funeral services over the years. Buster played fast pitch softball locally and for the Navy. One of the games was played at the 38th Parallel with the North Korean soldiers watching. During his lifetime he pitched over a thousand games. In 2014 he had the honor of being inducted into the Nebraska Softball Hall of Fame. He had a love for Husker football, photography, auctions, and an avid reader and was a WWII history buff. Buster had a great sense of humor and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Mostly, he loved his grandchildren and attending their events.

He is survived by his Wife: Joyce Fisher; Sons: Lyle (Ginger) Fisher, Danny (Artis) Fisher; Grandchildren: Johnny Jiang, Edward Li, Alisha & Dahlton Fisher; also many friends.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Sister: Phyllis Bridgmon and In Laws: Gloria & Harlan Sears.
