Obituary

William R. Nessen was born on September 17, 1937 to Clarence and Dorthea (Schroeder) Nessen in Omaha, Nebraska. He died at his home in Louisville at the age of 82 years and 6 months.

William attended Louisville Public Schools for 12 years.  He graduated Salutatorian of his class in May of 1955.  William attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln College of Engineering on a scholarship from Paxton and Vierling Steel Company.  Upon completion of his studies at the University, he returned to PVS.  He started in the shop and worked his way up to Executive Vice President of Fabrication at the time of his retirement in the year of 2000. In 1984, Bill moved to Lincoln to become the General Manager of Lincoln Steel Company, a company that PVS acquired.  While at Lincoln Steel, the company furnished steel for many bridges in 13 states and several railroads.  At Lincoln Steel, he became involved in groups supporting the athletic and academic activities of student athletes.  Lincoln Steel provided employment for many UNL Athletes.  Bill returned to the corporate office in 1996.

Bill served on the Louisville Planning Commission during construction of the city-owned Nursing Home. Bill also served as liaison between the contractors and owners when ALF was built. He served on the Louisville School Board for 12 years.  He served as President for several years.  He was on the board when they remodeled and moved to the present site.  Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He served on many committees and was a Sunday School teacher.  When the Church roof was replaced, Bill was the liaison between the owner and contractors.  Bill coached American Legion Baseball for several years.  He was always active in all community, church and civic groups.

During Bill's employment years, he was active in Local, State, National and Overseas Construction projects.  He was active in Nebraska and National AGC groups.  He was a founding member for the National Steel Bridge Alliance, a division of the AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) based in Chicago.  He also was on the Board of Directors of the Central Fabricators Association, also based in Chicago.  During these years, Bill and wife Jean had the opportunity to travel to Association activities throughout the Country and Canada.

Bill was a member of the Downtown Omaha Rotary Club, was on the Board of the Omaha Builders Exchange and several Omaha Construction Building Groups.

Bill is survived by his wife Jean, Daughter Nicolle and son-in-law Scott Woeste of Louisville, Nebraska; granddaughters Jordyn and Joeie;   Son William Trev and wife Amy of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; grandchildren Mackenzie and Macayla.  Son Raymond Wade of Arizona. Daughter Cara Arnott and husband Andy of Phoenix, Arizona; grandson Nicholas and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

After Bill's retirement, he spent much of his time with his girls.  He attended all their activities, such as basketball games, music concerts and many "grandparents' days".  One of his lifelong passions was golf.  He had the opportunity to become a ranger at Quarry Oaks Golf Course and enjoyed renewing many friendships from his past.

Bill's main passion was his family.  His girls were the apples of his eye.  For them, he would move a mountain if need be.  He was their protector in many ways.

Celebration of Life will be Sunday, March 22nd from 3-7 at the Funeral Home.

Please Note:  Everyone is welcome to come to the celebration and doors will be monitored to follow the state guidelines of total number of people allowed at one time into the Chapel.
