Wilma L. Niedermeyer, 96 of Syracuse, passed away September 16 in Syracuse. She was born on May 28, 1921 to Frank & Winifred (Marquis) Staack on a farm near Syracuse, NE. She was baptized June 9, 1940 in Otoe, NE by Rev. D. Winker, Methodist pastor. Wilma was confirmed March 29, 1945 by Rev. Pfundt at St. Paul's United Church of Christ near Cook, NE. Her memory verse was James 4:8 "Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you." She graduated from Otoe High School in 1939.
Wilma married Raymond Schacht Oct. 27, 1942. They were blessed with 3 children – Eleanor Jean, Raymond Frank, and Marlene Kay.
Wilma was married to Harvey Niedermeyer Nov. 1, 1968 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ near Cook, NE by Rev. F. Kruse. She was a member of St. Paul's UCC (Osage), a member of the Women's Fellowship and the quilting group. Wilma worked at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh for 10 yrs. as the head cook in the kitchen. She was an excellent cook. Wilma enjoyed her family, embroidering, making quilts & quilting, dancing, playing cards, traveling, bowling and making ceramics. Her family all have quilts and ceramics that she lovingly made for them. She also enjoyed flower gardening – especially her roses.
Wilma sold her home in Cook and moved to Linden View Assisted Living in Syracuse, 5 yrs. ago. She enjoyed living there where she put together dozens of puzzles to sell at their annual craft bazaar. She also enjoyed playing bingo every Tuesday.
She is survived by her children: Eleanor (Robert) Kraenow of Cook, Ray Schacht of Lincoln, Marlene (Michael) Hupka of Minot, ND; grandchildren: Kevin (Bobbi) Kraenow of Gibbon, Denise (Rob) Morrison of Papillion, Christine (Kyong) Turk of Hawaii, Julie Bellis of Aurora, Lindsey (Brent) Fast of Turtle Lake, ND; 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson; sister-in-law: Mary Staack. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wilma was preceded by husband Harvey in 2010, parents, brother: Glen Staack & wife Jane, sister: Eunice Edwards, sister: Etta & husband Jim McCammon, brother: John Staack, infant brother, brother-in-law & sister-in-law: Ralph & Ruth Niedermeyer and many friends.
Celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul's UCC (Osage) in rural Cook. Burial will be at St. Paul's UCC cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 1 P.M. until 9 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice for later designation.
