Obituary for Wilma Schoeman
Wilma was born November 10, 1913 on a farm outside of Louisville in Cass County, Nebraska. She was the only child of Dan and Eva (Shelhorn) Schoeman. After graduating from Louisville High School in 1931, Wilma dedicated herself to caring for her ailing mother, and helping her father on the farm.
After her mother's death in 1942, Wilma and her father moved into Louisville and Wilma attended business school. She worked for United Mineral in Omaha as a receptionist and payroll clerk. In 1964, Wilma began working in Louisville as a receptionist for Dr. Worthman and his successor, Dr. Wilsey until her retirement in 1987.
A lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, Wilma was a well-known and loving presence in the congregation and served many years as the Financial Secretary, earning a reputation as a precise and exacting bookkeeper.
Though she was never blessed with children of her own, Wilma was a grandmother figure to many generations of children in her community. She was never happier than when in the presence of children. Three of those children, Maureen, Mitchel, and Marshall grew to consider her their "grandma" as the Norton family came to embrace her as their own.
In ailing health, Wilma moved to the Louisville Care Center in 2005 where she dispensed her famous hugs to staff and residents alike. In her final days, many came to her bedside to return those hugs and speak of the unconditional love Wilma showered on those around her.
Wilma's fierce determination enabled her to ring in the new year with family and friends close around her. Wilma is survived by a host of family and friends who feel their loss deeply.
